Tuesday Morning Box Office Report: The Hitman’s Bodyguard Leads Lacklustre Labour Day Weekend

With no major releases in theatres, it was another extremely slow weekend at the box office although not necessarily any worse than last weekend. It may have been the worst Labour Day Weekend in over a decade, but most of the movies in the top 10 had almost no drop whatsoever. The Hitman’s Bodyguard won its third weekend in a row with $13.4 million over four days followed by Annabelle: Creation with $9.3 million. Wind River jumped up to third place, overtaking the animated film Leap! after another expansion. Logan Lucky rounded out the top 5. Despicable Me 3 and The Nut Job 2 also sneaked back into the top 10 with the help of holiday Monday grosses while the Close Encounters Of The Third Kind re-release opened in 14th place with $2.3 million. After this brief drought, the stage seems to be set for Stephen King’s It to put up some big numbers next weekend.

1. The Hitman’s Bodyguard — $13.4M
2. Annabelle: Creation — $9.3M
3. Wind River — $8.0M
4. Leap! — $6.6M
5. Logan Lucky — $5.6M
6. Dunkirk — $5.6M
7. Spider-Man: Homecoming — $4.7M
8. The Emoji Movie — $3.4M
9. Despicable Me 3 — $3.3M
10. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature — $2.9M
