Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Hitman’s Bodyguard Beats Logan Lucky

It may have been one of the slowest movie weekends of the year so far but The Hitman’s Bodyguard still managed to do some decent business, opening with a respectable $21.6 million. The Ryan Reynolds / Samuel L. Jackson action-comedy knocked Annabelle: Creation out of the top spot, forcing the horror sequel to settle for second with $15.5 million. Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky was a distant third, earning just $8 million on over 3000 screens. That’s definitely a disappointment although Soderbergh has mitigated the risk by preselling the film’s distribution rights. Dunkirk and The Nut Job 2 rounded out the top 5. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River managed to sneak into the top 10 after expanding nationwide to the tune of $3 million. Expect things to get even slower next weekend.
