Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Leonardo Da Vinci Biopic

Following up on his Oscar win for The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio has been taking some time away from acting while he carefully chooses his next project. A few possibilities surfaced earlier this year as potential follow-ups including the crime dramas Killers Of The Flower Moon and The Black Hand, but now this week there is a bigger prestige project developing that he seems to have more of a personal investment in. Paramount has reportedly won a major bidding war for a Leonardo Da Vinci biopic and DiCaprio is now attached to star. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to Deadline, Paramount has won a seven-figure auction for the rights to Walter Isaacson’s upcoming book Leonardo Da Vinci with the intention of turning it into a starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio was supposedly named after the famous inventor and artist, which is why he is particularly interested in playing him. DiCaprio will also produce along with Jennifer Davisson through their Appian Way banner.

Walter Isaacson has written biographies of many influential inventors and historical figures including Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein and Steve Jobs. The latter was adapted for the Danny Boyle film Steve Jobs starring Michael Fassbender. Hopefully they can get an interesting writer and director on board to help make this something special. It is unclear when the movie might happen, but DiCaprio also has The Devil in the White City or The Ballad of Richard Jewell waiting as possible next projects.
