Armando Iannucci’s The Death of Stalin Trailer

Although writer-director Armando Iannucci has been quietly doing great work on HBO’s Veep over the past few years, fans of In The Loop have no doubt been anxiously awaiting his return to the big screen. Fortunately they won’t have to wait much longer because his next movie is just a couple of months away. Rather than focusing on current events, this time he has turned his rapid fire political satire to the past: specifically, 1953 Moscow where the USSR is scrambling following the sudden death of Joseph Stalin. Based on the graphic novel by Fabien Nury and Thierry Robin, the movie stars Steve Buscemi, Jeffrey Tambor, Jason Isaacs, Olga Kurylenko, Rupert Friend, Andrea Riseborough, Paddy Considine and Michael Palin. The Death of Stalin premieres at TIFF in September and hits theatres in the U.K. on Oct. 20th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

“Armando, what do we do about all the accents?”
    “Thomas the Wank Engine!”

Looks bloody good – feels like it’s been ages since I’ve seen Michael Palin in a film…too busy traipsing round the world making travel docos. Hope he features heavily and has a stutter.

This is probably my most anticipated movie of the year, surpassing The Killing Of A Sacred Deer. :)
