Atomic Blonde needed more Charlize throat punches and less plot.

…and less slow pans of people smoking cigarettes.

  • filmstache

This will make a nice end to a10 hour day. P.S. i start buying premiums when my wife says to stop buying movies. She just told me too stop buying movies.

  • devolutionary

Atomic Blonde doesn’t hit my theater until next week but I really enjoyed the trip down Zimmer’s hole. PS your audio feed was extremely good considering it was a Skype call Dwy-guy!
Score-Bits will make or break any cinephile’s ego.

  • Stinker

Basil Poledouris,John Scott, Thomas Newman. All made better scores than the one created by Zimmer Manufacture of generic scores “to go”. Paperhouse was great a brilliant score, but then the “the Zimmer” became Mr. Film Music.

  • Charles Palentine

The Hans Zimmer Live: Review is the best podcasting out there.

Frank – thanks for being you
    Jay – your brain’s good
Sean – you’re Film Junk; essential; irreplaceable
Dax – you’ve grown on me

You get better every week – thanks, guys.

    Score Junk Podcast!! Very happy!!

  • ah

Love score bits but the rules of this game are a shit show on the level of the Stranger Things Season 2 chapter titles – where’s the game cred Frank?

The lock out has to go. The best version of the rules that I can remember are 3 points for the short, 2 points for the long, and 1 point for the reveal. If songs are picked specifically for a player, the player is allowed one guess for the short clip, one guess for the long clip and one guess for the reveal clip. If it’s a free for all game, like this episode, then again each player should be allowed one guess for the short clip, one for the long, and one for the reveal. It’s just more fun that way.

Other than that minor quibble, great show guys – love these road trip episodes.

    Cinema is dead.

  • Indianamcclain

Sean did you decide to give up on Twin Peaks? I’ve watched all 12 episodes this far and I think I’m ready to say that it’s pretty bad. There are moments of greatness, but then there are other moments of nonsensical self indulgence.

  • Newtman98

Filmjunk should do karaoke on an upcoming podcast

  • Sean

Still watching but a few episodes behind. I’m pretty lost but it’s partially on me.

  • AyThroughZee

Definitely think being locked out of songs for guessing should go. No one wants to say anything because no one wants to not play. Love a carcast!

    Fully agree!!!

  • Niklas

QEW by Spadina!? DAX, you’re on the GARDINER!

  • Colin

    Entertainment is Dead

  • devolutionary

I’m several episodes behind as well but David Lynch’s raging Id is on full display here. By comparison, makes Season One feel like Columbo.

  • Dax Gordine

lol I should be stripped of my Canadian citizenship.

  • Jay Cheel

I’m five episodes in after a rewatch of the first two seasons and Fire Walk With Me. I will talk about it on the show when I can.

  • LordAwesome

Once again Frank disses a movie for stealing from Tarantino. Is he really this oblivious to irony?

  • Peter Harrison

Thank you for another classic episode. The road trip has to become a yearly tradition. I’m really impressed by the quality of the recording in the car. Thanks Frank for editing a doozy, complete with Zimmer plunges in between sections!

  • Matt the Kiwi

Dax “Kind of like a thrusting in and out …y’know like back door, front door, back door, in ‘n out, in ‘n out, kinda motion”. Dax, I love ya buddy but this nearly made me crash my car. Perhaps that says more about me…

  • devolutionary

This is all I could think of when Dax said that:

“You put your down, down…and thrust your pelvis!”

Can the karaoke just be humming scores?

  • Score Bits was a triumph. Nice work Frank. Some spicy, unexpected ingredients in the Zimmer Sauce (Toys, lock-out mayhem, acceptance speech clips…inspired). Oh, and I always like to hear the “pre-amble to the ‘dwhuuuump'”. It’s the best part – am I right, ladies?

  • Carlos

Yes, great episode! After last year’s ‘Neon Demon’ ep, this should be a yearly FJ summer tradition. The ‘road trip’ episode.

  • Mister Quigley Jr.

That was a fun listen, thanks boys.

  • Sam

I’m also fully caught up on Twin Peak and would love to hear discussion.

I’m loving this season pretty much through and through. Nonsensical self indulgence and all. Tons of spots that seem to be purposefully trying the patience and expectations of the audience that I’ve been pretty fully on board with. Some very minor quibbles, but I’m having a blast with the new season.

  • Indianamcclain

That’s part of the problem for me. It doesn’t feel like the same show at all. I liked how the original series almost felt like a parody of soap operas, but that’s been completely removed for this new season.

  • Indianamcclain

Maybe rewatching Fire Walk With Me will help to fill in the blanks.

  • Indianamcclain

Definitely looking forward to your thoughts on this season.

  • pcch7

Score bits was good as always, have to agree with Frank. The first 3 were easy pickings

  • pcch7

Do you know how many episodes there will be? I’ve been waiting so I can piledrive them all

  • devolutionary

18 scheduled. 12 down, 6 to go. Wait till September.

  • Sam

Yup, though I believe only 5 weeks left since 17 & 18 are supposed to air on the same night.

  • pcch7

Alright nice. Think I’ll wait for the whole season then. GoT will be winding down by then

  • Deven Science

    I am terrible at Scorebits.

  • Tommy

    Frank’s a composeur

  • Kevin Cardoza

Small correction: Dax claimed that Zimmer originated the “thwomp”. I’m afraid that can’t be added to his official list of achievements. The original Inception trailer where the “thwomp” took hold used a song by Zack Hemsey.

  • Sam

I think that’s expected. A parody of soap operas made sense in the early 90s, but would feel really out of date now 25 years later. Fire Walk With Me sets the tone for this new season far more than the first two seasons I think.

  • Kenneth Serenyi

Why the periodic pot-shots at Bill Nye? Not Science Guy fans?

  • Kasper

Yup, the road trips rule. I hope they do a long trip next year.

  • Indianamcclain

I wouldn’t recommend doing that. I was 6 episodes behind when I started watching and it was a struggle to get through them all in a short period of time. I think they’re intended to be seen one at a time.

  • Beat_C

yeah, i wonder if he’s ever seen, say, “lady snowblood”. and listened to that soundtrack.

  • Beat_C

i don’t like hans zimmer at all, but you guys can turn just about anything into great entertainment. thanks!

  • pcch7
  • iammattz

Thank you fellas this was a treat!

  • Sam

Yeah, Fire Walk With Me is key to this season. From everything from Blue Rose to Phillip Jeffries, so much of this season relies on the fact that we have seen and are familiar with Fire Walk with Me.

  • Jenny

I love the road trip episodes. There is an episode of the german/french show “Durch die Nacht mit” with John Carpenter and Franka Potente. They meet in LA and there is a short visit to the Hans Zimmer studios. JC wonders about all the people working there.
