Comic-Con Headlines: Doctor Doom Spin-Off, Flashpoint Movie, Blumhouse Does Spawn

Aside from the many trailers that debuted at the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, there were also plenty of smaller announcements spread throughout the various panels. Rather than post all of these news stories individually, I thought it would be easier to simply bring the most noteworthy ones together in one place. The headlines include some major casting news for Ant-Man and the Wasp, a big reveal for The Flash movie, and some interesting hints about how Fox may be trying to salvage their Fantastic Four franchise. Hit the jump for the full rundown.

  • Fargo and Legion showrunner Noah Hawley claims to be working on a Doctor Doom movie of some sort. Fox is also said to be developing a kid-friendly Fantastic Four spin-off about Franklin Richards, the son of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Girl.
  • According to a report from THR, Universal is eyeing Channing Tatum to play Van Helsing in their Dark Universe series.
  • Todd MacFarlane’s long-rumoured Spawn reboot appears to be finally moving forward thanks to a new partnership with Blumhouse Productions.
  • Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne have joined the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp as Janet van Dyne (the original Wasp) and Bill Foster (aka Black Goliath).
  • Marvel’s Captain Marvel movie will be set in the ’90s and will feature the Skrulls as villains. Samuel L. Jackson will also have a major role as a pre-eye patch Nick Fury.
  • The upcoming slate of DC animated movies includes Gotham by Gaslight, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, and a new two part retelling of “The Death of Superman” event series.
  • The Flash live-action movie will be an adaptation of the fan favourite comic book story “Flashpoint”, which takes place in an alternate timeline where the Justice League doesn’t exist.

My guess for the plotline of the Captain Marvel Movie: The Skrulls were the reason the soviet Union and friends collapsed.

I’m all for Noah Hawley doing Doctor Doom simply because I love his work on Fargo and Legion, but if this becomes another Fan4stic then fuck no.
