The Greatest Showman Trailer: Hugh Jackman is P.T. Barnum

We’ve been hearing about a Hugh Jackman-fronted P.T. Barnum biopic for quite a few years now. The project was originally announced back in 2009, and at that time it seemed like a response to Tim Burton and Jim Carrey’s Robert Ripley biopic Believe It or Not! (which in turn had been in development since 2005). That movie never happened but now some 8 years later, we’re finally getting The Greatest Showman. Directed by VFX artist and commercial director Michael Gracey, this is a musical that revolves around the life story of the man who invented show business and the world famous traveling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. The triumphant and uplifting tone is not at all what I would expect from a movie about a guy who arguably exploited his performers and is known for the phrase “There’s a sucker born every minute”, but I suppose if anyone can put a positive spin on this it’s Hugh Jackman. The Greatest Showman co-stars Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Williams and Zendaya and it hits theatres on Dec. 25th. Check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Looks awesome (coming from someone who loves Moulin Rouge though). It completely dissolved my cynical boner which is a nice feeling in this day and age.
