Melissa McCarthy to Star in Christmas Comedy Margie Claus

2017 has been a pretty quiet year for Melissa McCarthy with no major movie roles to speak of, although she has managed to stay in the spotlight thanks to her frequent appearances on SNL as Sean Spicer. She does have a couple of movies in post-production currently including Life of the Party, directed by her husband and frequent collaborator Ben Falcone. Now the duo are also in the process of setting up a Christmas comedy that finds her playing Mrs. Claus, although believe it or not, there is a similar competing project already in the works at Disney as well. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Deadline, Warner Brothers and New Line have set Melissa McCarthy’s holiday comedy Margie Claus for release on Nov. 15th, 2019. The movie is also a musical and it finds her playing Mrs. Claus, who must mount a search and rescue after Santa goes missing while delivering presents on Christmas Eve. Ben Falcone (Tammy, The Boss) will direct and co-write with Damon Jones (Benched).

Interestingly, Disney is working on a “female Santa” movie of their own called Nicole. Anna Kendrick is attached to star and despite her musical background it is not a full-fledged musical although she “may end up indulging her musical side.” The Disney movie is being directed by Marc Lawrence (Did You Hear About the Morgans?). Which of these two competing holiday movies do you have more interest in?
