Hanna TV Series in the Works at Amazon

Joe Wright’s 2011 film Hanna may not have been a huge box office hit, but it certainly earned solid reviews at the time and has since developed a strong cult following. The movie revolves around a sixteen-year-old girl (played by Saoirse Ronan) who is sent off on her first mission after being trained by her father to be the perfect assassin. It’s a Bourne-esque action-thriller crossed with a coming of age tale. Now Amazon is looking to continue the story on the small screen and one of the film’s screenwriters, David Farr, is on board to pen the script. He had this to say about the announcement:

“I am delighted to be able to return to the Hanna story. Joe Wright’s movie was dazzling, but inevitably there were certain elements that a feature-length film wasn’t able fully to explore. It’s a pleasure therefore to be able to revisit the material in a longer format and take Hanna into whole new physical and emotional worlds. Amazon has shown such passion for the project and is the perfect home for Hanna.”

The show will be produced by NBCUniversal International Studios and one of the movie’s original producers, Marty Adelstein, is also involved. Joe Wright, however, is not, and it seems unlikely that Saoirse Ronan would be either. David Farr other recent projects include AMC’s The Night Manager and Cédric Jimenez’s upcoming WWII thriller The Man with the Iron Heart. Do you have any interest in a Hanna TV series?

I fucking LOVE this movie. I watch it once a year or so. I’m very curious about this, and will give it a chance when it’s released. Hopefully they cast some talented actors.
