Silver Sable and Black Cat Movie Gets a Director

Last week Sony seemed to get the attention of comic book fans when they announced that Tom Hardy would be starring in a Venom movie with Ruben Fleischer attached to direct. Now this week they are taking a major step forward with another standalone movie set in the Spider-Man universe. The movie is a spin-off that will revolve around two female characters that have been both allies and adversaries to Spider-Man over the years: Silver Sable and the Black Cat. While we still don’t know who will play the two leads, we do know who will direct the movie. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to THR, Sony has hired director Gina Prince-Bythewood to helm their upcoming Silver Sable and Black Cat movie, now officially titled Silver and Black. Prince-Bythewood has directed several acclaimed dramas including her 2000 directorial debut Love & Basketball and, more recently, the romantic drama Beyond the Lights. She is also directing the pilot episode for Freeform’s upcoming Marvel TV series Cloak & Dagger.

Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) wrote the latest draft of the script, which was previously penned by Lisa Joy (Westworld). As with the Venom movie, it remains unclear whether Tom Holland will make an appearance in the film as Spider-Man or if that is even possible with his current ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man deal currently covers just six films: Captain America: Civil War, The Avengers: Infinity War 1 and 2, as well as three solo Spider-Man movies. Are you looking forward to either of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-offs?
