Disney and Marvel easily cruised to another box office victory as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earned $63 million in its second weekend, bringing its current worldwide total to $630 million. That is the fifth best second weekend take for a Marvel Studio film behind the two Avengers movies, Captain America: Civil War and Iron Man 3. The other new releases in theatres suffered as a result as the Amy Schumer / Goldie Hawn comedy Snatched came in a distant second with $17.5 million. That’s mostly in line with some of the more modest predictions, but it’s almost half of what Trainwreck made back in 2015. In third place, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was the first major flop of the summer, earning just $14.7 million on a $175 million budget. Analysts had been predicting this for a while, but I don’t think anyone expected it to be quite this bad. This may pose a problem for the next five movies in the series. Elsewhere The Fate of the Furious and The Boss Baby rounded out the top 5 while Lowriders had a decent debut in eighth place, taking $2.4 million from just 295 screens.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — $63M
2. Snatched — $17.5M
3. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword — $14.7M
4. The Fate of the Furious — $5.3M
5. The Boss Baby — $4.6M
6. Beauty and the Beast — $3.9M
7. How to Be a Latin Lover — $3.8M
8. Lowriders — $2.4M
9. The Circle — $1.7M
10. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion — $1.6M

175 million?? LOL. Seriously, who green lit that? It’s not an established franchise and there are no “superstars” in it. Who were they making this movie for? I’m gonna assume that this also does not include the marketing budget, so probably add another 75-100 million for that. Wow, just wow. We’re they banking on the great King Arthur name to bring in the audiences? Or just hoping all the Sons of Anarchy fans would fill the seats?

Rumor has it they were trying to pull the Game of Thrones fans in.

Ok, I can understand that. I still don’t see the justification for that budget, but I forgot about the GoT popularity.

It’s crazy too that this was suppose to be the first of five movies. Yeah, ok.

Blumhouse probably could have developed, produced, marketed and released five movies for the same amount of money craft services cost on King Arthur.

call me mean, but as someone who alwas detested guy ritchie, i think it’s hilarious how badly “king arthur” is doing.
