The Big Sick Trailer Starring Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan

One of the biggest acquisitions at Sundance this year (or indeed at Sundance any year) was The Big Sick, a romantic comedy acquired by Amazon for approximately $12 million. Written by real-life partners Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the movie stars Nanjiani essentially playing himself and Zoe Kazan (What If) playing Gordon in an adaptation of the true story of how they fell in love. Although cultural differences initially kept them apart, Gordon was soon diagnosed with a mysterious illness that left her in a coma, forcing them to come to terms with their true feelings for each other. The movie is directed by Michael Showalter and produced by Judd Apatow and it also features Ray Romano and Holly Hunter in supporting roles. Clearly Amazon has a lot of confidence in the movie since they are giving it a big summer release date where it will go head to head with War for the Planet of the Apes. The Big Sick hits select theaters on June 23rd before going wide on July 14th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
