A Roseanne Revival is Officially Happening

Limited series revivals of ’80s and ’90s shows are all the rage right now with classics like The X-Files, Twin Peaks and Gilmore Girls all recently bringing back their original casts for brand new episodes. Now another staple of ’90s TV is about to make a comeback as Roseanne is officially gearing up for a new season. We’ve been hearing for a while now that Roseanne Barr has been trying to reteam with John Goodman for a new show called Downwardly Mobile, but although a pilot was shot it was ultimately shelved. Now Roseanne is getting the gang back together. Hit the jump for more info.

According to Deadline, a new eight episode season of Roseanne is in the works with most of the original cast returning including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert. Laurie Metcalf and several others are also in talks to reprise their roles and the hope is that even The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki will make an appearance. The original show’s executive producers Tom Werner and Bruce Helford are also back with Helford and Whitney Cummings serving as showrunners.

The new season is currently being shopped around with several networks said to be interested including the show’s original home ABC and (of course) Netflix. The original show ran for 9 seasons between 1988 and 1997 with May 20th marking the 20th anniversary of the series finale. Do you think the time is right for a new season of Roseanne?
