Jeff Goldblum to Return for Jurassic World 2

When Jurassic World neglected to bring back any cast members from the previous films outside of BD Wong, many people assumed it was because they all wanted too much money or simply declined to be involved. In actuality, Spielberg wanted to focus on making something new instead of relying on the past (or so he says). Now that they have accomplished that, it looks like the next movie will try to reconnect with the original trilogy a little bit more. This week brings word that at least one major character will return in Jurassic World 2: Dr. Ian Malcolm. Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR, Jeff Goldblum has signed on to star in Universal and Amblin’s upcoming sequel to Jurassic World, reprising his role as mathematician Ian Malcolm, who previously appeared in the first two Jurassic Park films. It is unclear just how extensive his role will be, but at the moment he is the only confirmed character returning from the original trilogy (BD Wong is also expected to be back as Dr. Henry Wu). Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will also star along with newcomers Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and James Cromwell.

Jurassic World 2 is being directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) from a script by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly and they have described it as being “more suspenseful and scary.” They are also supposedly planning to incorporate more animatronic dinosaurs in this one. The addition of Jeff Goldblum should be a major selling point, although to be fair, he was also in Independence Day: Resurgence and it didn’t help much. Are you looking forward to Jurassic World 2?

I like it, but I really hope this is not a glorified cameo.

Hear, hear. Needed so much more Goldblum in Independence Day, so hoping they don’t screw this one up.

I’m always up for more Goldblum! Plus he was the best part of Independence Day 2…
