Following up on the recent casting of Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2, 20th Century Fox has just announced release dates for the next three movies in the X-Men universe, all of which will hit theatres in 2018. The first is the New Mutants movie, the second is Deadpool 2, and the third is the long-awaited Dark Phoenix movie, which was rumoured to be the next X-Men movie earlier this year. It now appears to be more of a spin-off than a full X-Men movie, however. Hit the jump to find out what we know about these upcoming films.

This week Fox has announced that their New Mutants spin-off, titled simply New Mutants, is now scheduled to arrive on April 13th, 2018, one month later than originally expected. Directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), we still have not yet heard any casting announcements for this movie, so it is a bit surprising that it will be the first of the three to hit theatres. Deadpool 2 will follow in the summer on June 1st, where it currently is the only blockbuster to occupy that date.

Then, later in the year, Dark Phoenix will hit theatres on Nov. 2nd. This movie was originally rumoured to be going under the title “X-Men: Supernova”, but producer Simon Kinberg later revealed that was merely a codename. Now they seem to have dropped the X-Men prefix altogether, which is a bit surprising. All we know is that Sophie Turner will likely star and that Kinberg himself is interested in directing. Are you looking forward to a Dark Phoenix standalone film?

Wait, doesn’t Deadpool belong to Marvel, and not Fox?

No but they seem to have done a good job of associating themselves with the Marvel brand.
