Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Fate of the Furious Smashes International Opening Weekend Record

The Fate of the Furious was right on target over the weekend as it managed to become the second movie of the year to open above $100 million but only just barely. The movie raced to an estimated $100.2 million at the domestic box office, which is the second best start for the franchise but still a staggering $47 million off from Furious 7. That being said, the movie did set a new box office record internationally, pulling in $432.3 million outside the U.S. which puts it ahead of its predecessor from an overall perspective. Elsewhere, The Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast fell to second and third place respectively, while Smurfs: The Lost Village and Going in Style rounded out the top 5. The Fate of the Furious should easily continue to dominate for the rest of the month.
