After months of speculation and fan petitioning, Fox has finally settled on an actor to play Cable in the upcoming Deadpool sequel. In this case, they appear to have gone off the grid by choosing someone who was not rumoured to be in the running in the first place: Josh Brolin. Although Brolin has played his fair share of grizzled anti-heroes over the years, he still seems like a surprising choice, perhaps because he is known more for his dramatic work in movies like No Country for Old Men, Milk and Sicario. According to THR, Josh Brolin will play Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2. Brolin is already playing one Marvel character currently, that being the cosmic villain Thanos, and he previously headlined Jonah Hex for Warner Brothers (which didn’t turn out so well). Brolin’s Cable deal is said to encompass up to four movies.
Last we heard, Michael Shannon was the top choice to play Cable, but David Harbour was also on the short list. Other actors that had been rumoured include Brad Pitt, Russell Crowe, Kyle Chandler and Nathan Fillion. What do you think, did they make the right choice?
