Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

It’s Monday morning, but here’s something to make it a little more tolerable. Marvel has just dropped the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok and as far as Thor movies go, it looks like it should easily be the best of the bunch. Directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), it teases the gladiatorial Planet Hulk storyline and generally promises a much more colourful, comedic take on the material. It seems clear that Guardians of the Galaxy has been an influence here, although it kind of makes sense as all of these worlds will eventually collide in The Avengers: Infinity War anyway. Thor: Ragnarok co-stars Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Tessa Thompson and it hits theatres on Nov. 3rd; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Looks very fun and the visuals are winning me over. I’m sold on this.

It looks fun, there’s some cool visuals in there for sure. BUT, he better have long hair by the end of it, that’s all I’m gonna say

  • Jr

    Holy crap, this looks great.

  • ah

I’m assuming when people say the visuals look great, they’re referring to the visual of the action within the frame because, in terms of the colour palette and lighting, the visuals are 100% washed out and televisual once again. Nothing pops! It all looks too budget for a supposedly big film, and the same goes for the costumes.

The cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe has shot some decent looking films, so I think this is another case of Marvel dictating a specific bland look for their films.

Disappointed in the Immigrant Song. How about some Shihad, Taika? Represent!

  • Nuno

I like that they’ve abandoned the old costume designs. Here’s hoping that Future Santa is rocking something special like a neon mohawk and handlebar moustache. Would Jay approve?

I’m in!!! In the early release pictures, I hated the costumes, but that trailer is awesome!!!

Even though I do love the trailer, I agree with this complaint.

Please die comic books. I’m pretty sure I’d rather drug store romance novels be made into movies at this point.

  • Matt the Kiwi

You’re so right – if you chuck on Pacifier at just the right moment during the trailer it works beautifully. Hopefully somebody with more spare time than me will make it happen on youtube :)

“He’s a friend from work” is a good line.

I think anyone going into this in Taika state of mind is going to have a bloody good time. It can’t come out quick enough for me (although I don’t advise pausing on some of those crowd scenes…the extra’s look like they’d be more at home in Whoville).

    “Waaaaaaah it looks televisual!!!”

    – Jay, probably.

  • parapa

Still looks washed out and ugly, like all their movies. They’ve had enough different good cinematographers make the same ugly looking stuff that it’s clearly a mandate from higher up, but I just don’t understand it. Maybe they just rush the whole process and this is their way of getting actors in and out quicker, but it’s depressing to see multi-hundred million dollar productions that look worse than some student films on Vimeo.

    Led Zep!

    “Asgardians of the Galaxy”

    Cate looks fabulous, as always
