Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Boss Baby Bounces Beauty and the Beast (Again)


It was another battle between The Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast at the box office over the weekend, but in the end The Boss Baby held on for its second win in a row. The animated film added another $26.3 million bringing its worldwide total to just under $200 million. Meanwhile Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast is on the verge of hitting the $1 billion mark. Another family film was in third place as Smurfs: The Lost Village opened with $14 million, a little less than what The Smurfs 2 made back in 2013. Zach Braff’s heist comedy Going in Style was close behind in fourth with a solid $12.5 million, while Ghost in the Shell rounded out the top 5, dropping over 60% to take $7.2 million in its second weekend. Elsewhere The Case for Christ managed to crack the top 10, debuting to $3.9 million from 1,174 theatres.
