Over the years there has been some debate over the true inspiration for the character of Rocky Balboa, but Sylvester Stallone himself acknowledged early on that the initial idea came after watching a 1975 championship match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. Wepner eventually sued him and Stallone quietly settled out of court, but director Jeff Feuerzeig tried to give him his due with the 2011 ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The Real Rocky. Now that documentary is serving as the source material for a feature film starring Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts called simply Chuck. Directed by French-Canadian filmmaker Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar), it premiered last year at TIFF under the name The Bleeder. Chuck will also play the Tribeca Film Festival this month before hitting select theatres on May 5th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
