Ridley Scott to Direct WWII Movie Battle of Britain

With Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk hitting theatres this summer, you can probably expect an increase in the number of World War II movies being made over the next couple of years. Granted, we’ve already had quite a few recently with movies like Fury, Allied and Hacksaw Ridge, but now 20th Century Fox is currently gearing up for a new entry of their own called Battle of Britain. The movie will revolve around (you guessed it) The Battle of Britain, which was fought by the Royal Air Force as they defended the U.K. from German bombers in 1940. Ridley Scott has apparently added it to his neverending list of upcoming projects. Hit the jump for more info.

According to Variety, Ridley Scott is currently in developing the WWII movie Battle of Britain at Fox with an eye on directing and producing. The script is being written by Matthew Orton, who also wrote the upcoming WWII drama Operation Finale for MGM, which has Oscar Isaac in talks to star. Matthew Charman, who co-wrote Bridge of Spies with The Coen Brothers, is executive producing both films.

The big question, as always, is where this movie might fit in to Ridley Scott’s upcoming slate. He recently boarded the kidnapping drama All the Money in the World and he has a handful of other projects in the works including (potentially) even more Alien sequels. His last war movie was 2001’s Black Hawk Down, although he has never directed anything set during World War II as of yet. Are you interested in seeing a WWII movie directed by Ridley Scott?
