Stephen King’s It Trailer

After a few false starts, the folks at Warner Brothers have finally been able to get a new version of Stephen King’s classic novel It off the ground and this week we’ve got our first look at the upcoming film. Although Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) was once attached to direct it as two separate movies, they ended up settling on Andrés Muschietti (Mama) and a single installment. The story revolves around a group of kids in a small town who encounter a monster that appears in the form of a terrifying clown named Pennywise. The popularity of Stranger Things clearly indicates that people are ready to revisit this kind of material, but can Bill Skarsgård compete with Tim Curry’s performance in the 1990 mini-series? It hits theatres on Sept. 8th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Color me optimistic. Love the tone and feel of this trailer. Some of the scariest parts of the novel are the digressions into the history of Derry (like the nightclub fire), and it looks like Muschietti has filmed at least some of them.

As an aside, it’s crazy we got a trailer for IT before one for Dark Tower, which is supposedly coming out in July (but doesn’t seem likely).

This looks way better than I was expecting

Looks good! Very good. Love the tone and look.

Anyone know if this gonna be rated R? I loved the book as a kid and the material was definitely rated R stuff.

There has been good Stephen King movies and TV series but none have really lived up the books. Hopes this does.

    Doesnt look half bad

  • Matt the Kiwi

The look of this is great! I just hope it feels more like Stand By Me with horror elements rather than just a straight out horror tone.

Looks good… pretty DARN good, as a matter of fact!

  • ReelJunkie

    Sold! This looks amazing.

  • ProjectGenesis

From what I’ve read, it will be R rated.

  • Flo Lieb

Will be interesting to see if the movie shows the children gang-bang from the book (probably not though).

Park Chan-wook’s cinematographer, nice. Looks better than expected and there’s less of that juggalo vibe emanating from Pennywise.

    Cool!! Thanks!

    … What’s this now!?

  • Flo Lieb

In the book the girl has sex with all the boys towards the end.

    The fuck?
I thought you were shitting me, but apparently he has weird sex scenes in a couple of his stories..
