Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Beast Repeats, Power Rangers a Strong Second

It was another big weekend for Disney as their live-action version of Beauty and the Beast continued to deliver, bringing in the fourth largest second weekend ever with $88.3 million. The movie has already made an astonishing $690 million worldwide and does not appear to be slowing down. In second place, the big screen Power Rangers reboot did pretty well for Lionsgate, debuting in second place with $40.5 million. Granted, it also cost $100 million to make so they will be looking for some help overseas to make their money back. Elsewhere Kong: Skull Island fell to third, while the sci-fi thriller Life did just okay, opening in fourth with $12.6 million. Logan rounded out the top 5. The weekend’s other new release, CHiPs, failed to measure up to other recent R-rated comedies, opening to a disappointing $7.6 million.
