Last week we learned that Sony was officially moving forward with a Venom standalone movie that was not expected to feature Spider-Man himself. Now this week they are adding a second film to their expanding Spider-Man universe that will focus on two more anti-heroes. The untitled movie will revolve around two female characters that have worked both alongside and against Spider-Man at various points in time: Silver Sable and Black Cat. Once again, it sounds like Spidey himself will be absent from the movie. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to THR, Sony is currently developing a Spider-Man spin-off that will focus on Silver Sable and the Black Cat. Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) is currently writing the script, building on a previous draft by Lisa Joy (Westworld). There had been rumours of a female-centric Spider-Man spin-off for a couple of years now, although at the time there was speculation that Spider-Girl or Spider-Woman might also be involved.
Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat is a cat burglar who has been a love interest of Spider-Man over the years. She was played by Felicity Jones in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 although she never actually became Black Cat in that film. As for Sable, she is a mercenary who leads a team called the Wild Pack and hunts war criminals using sometimes questionable methods. This movie and the Venom movie are “not offshoots from the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming but rather projects spun from the overall franchise”… whatever that means.
