Michael Shannon is the Top Choice to Play Cable in Deadpool 2

After debuting a teaser in front of Logan, Fox seems to have everyone talking about Deadpool 2 and, in particular, the introduction of Cable. Speculation about the casting of Cable has been running rampant since last year when fans started campaigning for Avatar star Stephen Lang to get the part. According to a previous rumour, Deadpool director Tim Miller had been pushing for Kyle Chandler but Ryan Reynolds disagreed and that ultimately led to Miller leaving the sequel. Recently, some people thought the inclusion of Firefly posters in the Deadpool 2 teaser were a subtle hint that Nathan Fillion might have landed the role, and then just this week there was even a rumour that Brad Pitt might be in consideration. Now a recent report claims that none of those names are on the studio’s shortlist. Hit the jump to find out who might play Cable in Deadpool 2.

According to THR, Michael Shannon is now the current frontrunner to play Cable in Deadpool 2. He is not the only actor under consideration, however; David Harbour (Stranger Things, Suicide Squad) is also said to be on the shortlist. Although Kyle Chandler was previously rumoured, sources say he was never in contention for the role.

Michael Shannon is a bit of a surprising choice, not only because he already played Zod in Man of Steel, but also because he has himself expressed a lack of enthusiasm for comic book movies. Is he right for the part? It doesn’t feel like it to me, but then I don’t know all that much about Cable. Fox has already announced that Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) will be playing Domino in the sequel. Deadpool 2 is being directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde). Who would you like to see play Cable?

Dude’s a great actor, I could see it working.

I’m not sure if this is legit, but saw it posted on reddit earlier today. Supposedly leaked concept art, and Cable definitely looks like Brad Pitt.
