Adam Wingard’s Death Note Trailer

Following up on the disappointing Blair Witch, director Adam Wingard is turning to the creative freedom of Netflix for a live-action adaptation of the popular Death Note manga and anime. The story revolves around a young man who comes into possession of a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing their name down. He decides to use it to become a vigilante, but soon things get out of hand as he finds himself pursued by a detective. This looks to be the first project Wingard is doing without his writing partner Simon Barrett, but he promises it will still be in the vein of his previous films (ie. chock full of violence). Death Note stars Nat Wolff, Willem Dafoe, Masi Oka, Shea Whigham, Paul Nakauchi and Lakeith Stanfield and it arrives on Netflix on Aug. 25th; check out the teaser trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Been looking forward to this for a while. The trailer is living up to expectations. It looks a lot better than all of the Japanese live action adaptations which were as Jay says, “Televisual”. It has a lot going for it, but of course, we’ll just have to wait until August 25th to see.

This is going to be DOPE. The director of Hobo with a shotgun is the 2nd unit director – why can’t that guy get his own movie?

My sister was a big fan of the manga a few years ago, I’m interested to see what the hype was about. The trailer looks okay, but nothing inspiring so far.
