Rough Night Trailer Starring Scarlett Johansson and Kate McKinnon

roughnight

In honour of International Women’s Day yesterday (?), the first trailer for the upcoming comedy Rough Night debuted online. Because women need raunchy R-rated comedies too damnit! The movie stars Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell and Ilana Glazer as five friends who head to Miami for a wild bachelorette party weekend. It starts off feeling like yet another Bridesmaids or Bachelorette but then the trailer takes a dark turn and ends up feeling more like a female version of Very Bad Things. Co-written and directed by Lucia Aniello (Broad City, Time Traveling Bong), something tells me this could end up being one of the bigger comedies of the summer. Rough Night hits theatres on June 16th; check out the red band trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I’ll watch this if there’s a scene where they go to a Film Junk meet-up. Reed, you get the fat one ;)

What’s the verdict on VERY BAD THINGS? It seems to be a bit of a cult movie now, but I remember it was largely trounced or ignored on release. Same fate for this movie? Trailer is kinda meh, considering all the talent involved.

Sorry, I have better things to do with my life than watch this garbage, for example washing my manly hair.

  • 1138sw

Wow considering the talent involved and man I did not laugh or smile once! And I was expecting some drop dead laughing moments but nothing! That’s not a good sign for a movie when the trailer cannot produce a laugh.

And what happened to ScarJo? did she just age into a 40 year old?

  • ReelJunkie

    Cringe.

  • Very Bad Things goes into some of the most fucked up, dark territory I’ve ever seen in a movie. It’s amaZing. This looks like it takes that initial premise and tries to turn it into “Bridesmaids” or “The Hangover 3″ – both of which are not good movies.

  • LordAwesome

    She was infected by feminism.

  • 1138sw

    wow is that fake news?

So, because of my very liberal friends group, some of my friends are very angry with this trailer. Apparently, those that work in the sex industry (or advocate for them) are very upset that, like many movies and TV shows before it, this helps to dehumanize sex workers by turning yet another dead stripper into a joke. I’m not taking it that seriously personally, but once they said it, I could sort of see their point. Would it be funny if it were a cop? No. But it’s a stripper, so it’s hilarious. Oh, and it didn’t help their anger that it’s the fat girl sitting on him that did it. So, you’ve got marginalizing of a sex worker and fat shaming in one shot.

Anyhoo, just another point of view.

Group of women accidentally kill an innocent bystander during a hen weekend. That sounds intriguing. BUT only if Edgar Wright is directing or Alice Lowe is involved. As it looks in the trailer, no thanks.

  • Anthony

Well at least it’s a male stripper this time, right?
