Monday Morning Box Office Report: Logan Claws Its Way to $85 Million

Logan, Hugh Jackman’s swan song as Wolverine, proved once again over the weekend that R-rated blockbusters can deliver big numbers under the right circumstances. The movie failed to break Deadpool‘s R-rated opening weekend record but with an $85 million start it is still in the top 5 R-rated debuts of all time. Considering that $85 million is exactly what the PG-13 X-Men Origins: Wolverine made back in 2009, everyone involved should be very happy with how Logan performed. Elsewhere Get Out had a strong second weekend, adding another $26 million to its total, while faith-based film The Shack opened in third with a solid $16 million. The Lego Batman Movie was in fourth and Before I Fall opened a distant fifth with just $4.9 million. It will be interesting to see what happens next weekend with Logan going up against Kong: Skull Island.
