Monday Morning Box Office Report: Get Out Topples The Lego Batman Movie

Another low budget horror movie exceeded expectations over the weekend as Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out ended The Lego Batman Movie‘s reign. The movie made an impressive $30.5 million on a $4.5 million budget, which is a nice counterpoint to the disappointing performance of Keanu last year. The Lego Batman Movie fell to second place, adding another $19 million to its total, while John Wick: Chapter 2 actually jumped up a spot to third place. The Great Wall dropped to fourth while Fifty Shades Darker rounded out the top 5. Both of the other new movies in wide release, Rock Dog and Collide, opened outside the top 10 with pretty pitiful results while Gore Verbinski’s A Cure for Wellness had a disastrous second weekend, plummeting 68% and earning just $1.3M. For the sake of his career, he may need to return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, pronto.
