It’s been almost four years now since Oz the Great and Powerful hit theatres and we still aren’t any closer to finding out what Sam Raimi’s next major project behind the camera will be. Over the past few years he directed two episodes of the short-lived TV series Rake and the pilot for Ash vs. Evil Dead, plus a short film called The Black Ghiandola for the Make a Film Foundation. He has attached himself to numerous upcoming movies including a remake of A Prophet, a futuristic action movie called World War 3 and a heist movie set during a tornado. Now this week he has boarded another intriguing genre movie, but will it end up being his next film? Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to THR, Sam Raimi is in talks to direct an untitled mystery thriller centered around the Bermuda Triangle for Skydance Productions. Not much is known about the plot, but the latest draft of the script was written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time). The initial screenplay was penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Friday the 13th, Baywatch).
For some reason, there are three competing Bermuda Triangle movies in development around Hollywood right now with the other two being set up at Universal and Warner Brothers. The WB project will be based on a spec script by Daniel Kunka (Crime of the Century, 12 Rounds). I have no idea where the sudden surge of interest is coming from, but to be honest it sounds like material best suited for Roland Emmerich or the Syfy channel. That being said, a new twist on this so-called mystery could have potential. Do you have any interest in a Bermuda Triangle movie from Sam Raimi?
