Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Lego Batman Movie Whips Fifty Shades Darker

No surprises here as The Lego Batman Movie topped the box office over the weekend, pulling in an estimated $55 million. However, that is definitely on the lower side of expectations, considering that The Lego Movie made $69 million back in 2014. It is possible that a major winter storm in the Northeastern U.S. had an effect, although in second place, Fifty Shades Darker opened a bit stronger than expected with $46 million. John Wick: Chapter 2 also opened strong with $30 million, over twice what its predecessor made, putting it at #3. Elsewhere M. Night Shyamalan’s Split fell to fourth after sitting at #1 for three weeks in a row, while Hidden Figures rounded out the top 5. Fellow Oscar nominees La La Land and Lion are also continuing to do well.
