Although her last project was the Netflix holiday special A Very Murray Christmas, Sofia Coppola’s last few films have mostly flown under the radar, debuting to mixed reviews and very little fanfare. For a while there it was looking like she was going to direct a major studio film with a live action version of The Little Mermaid, but she ended up dropping out due to creative differences. Now she is back with another project that is way off the beaten path: a remake of the 1971 Clint Eastwood Civil War-era thriller The Beguiled. Colin Farrell plays a wounded Union soldier who seeks refuge in an all girls boarding school, slowly taking advantage of them and turning them against each other. Coppola’s version also stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning and it maintains both the period setting and the Southern gothic vibe. The Beguiled hits theatres on June 30th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
