Following up on the potentially disappointing Batman news that dropped earlier this week, we’ve got some developments on another upcoming DC Universe film that just might get fans talking about something else for a few days. Although The Flash is still currently scheduled to release after Wonder Woman and Justice League, the movie is currently underdoing a page one rewrite as they search for a new director. In the meantime, James Wan’s Aquaman is actually farther along in development and this week we have some additional casting to report. This week they appear to have nailed down another major villain for the movie, and in addition, they’ve got an A-list actress close to signing on for a significant role. Hit the jump for more details.
According to THR, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is currently in talks to play iconic DC villain Black Manta in the upcoming Aquaman movie for Warner Brothers. Abdul-Mateen previously starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix series The Get Down and also has upcoming roles in Baywatch and the P.T. Barnum biopic The Greatest Showman. He will join Patrick Wilson, who is already on board to play Orm aka Ocean Master, another Aquaman villain.
THR is also reporting that Nicole Kidman is in early talks to play Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna, the former Queen of Atlantis. Kidman was previously in negotiations to play the mother of Wonder Woman, but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Either way, she brings some major talent to a cast that also includes Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe Aquaman’s scientific advisor Dr. Vulko. Aquaman will start production in April and is expected to hit theatres on Oct. 5th, 2018. What do you think of the latest casting additions?
