Earlier this month, Warner Brothers made some changes to their release schedule for 2018, pushing Aquaman back a few months and moving another untitled film into its place. There has been some speculation that Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie could be taking over the summer release slot, although it is unclear if this indicates a lack of studio confidence in James Wan’s Aquaman. Now this week we have an interesting casting announcement for the film as the movie may have just found its villain. James Wan will once again be reteaming with The Conjuring and Insidious star Patrick Wilson. Hit the jump for the full scoop.
According to Deadline, Patrick Wilson has signed on to play Orm Marius aka Ocean Master in James Wan’s upcoming Aquaman movie. Orm is Aquaman’s half-brother and is essentially Loki to Aquaman’s Thor, often attempting to steal the throne of Atlantis. One version of the character seen in the comics was fully human and required a special suit and mask to breathe underwater, while others found him wielding powers similar to Aquaman. It is unclear which version they will go with for the movie.
Either way, this isn’t Patrick Wilson’s first DC comic book movie, having previously played Nite Owl in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and technically, he appeared in Batman v Superman as well, having provided the voice of the President of the United States. He isn’t necessarily the first guy I would think of to play a villain, but as of right now, we don’t actually know if Ocean Master is the main baddie or not. Aquaman hits theatres on Oct. 5th, 2018. How do you feel about this latest bit of casting news?
