Emilia Clarke Joins Han Solo Spin-Off

We already know that Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) will be headlining the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo standalone film and Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta) will be playing a young Lando Calrissian. Now we have another cast member to add to the mix: Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke. She’s already got plenty of geek cred for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, and I guess we can probably just let that whole Terminator Genisys thing slide. But the real question is who could she be playing in the Star Wars universe? Hit the jump to find out what we know.

According to the official press release, Emilia Clarke will join the cast of the untitled Han Solo standalone movie (which at this point really needs an official title… Han Solo: A Star Wars Story anyone?). Her role will “round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.” At this point, it is unclear if this is a lead role or a supporting one.

A few months ago, we heard that several actresses were testing for the female lead in the film including Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott. At the time, there was speculation that this character could be Sana Starros, Han Solo’s former wife / partner in crime in the comics. However, the fact that Emilia Clarke is white would seem to imply that she is playing a different role. Some might assume she is playing a young Leia Organa, but the timeline for that probably doesn’t make much sense. Are you a fan of Emilia Clarke? Who do you think she might be playing in the Han Solo movie?
