New to Theatres This Weekend: Arrival, Shut In, Almost Christmas

We’ve got three new movies opening in wide release this weekend, although none of them should pose a major threat to Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi film Arrival finally hits theatres after earning solid reviews on the festival circuit earlier this year. Other major releases include the Naomi Watts thriller Shut In and the holiday comedy Almost Christmas starring Gabrielle Union, Omar Epps, Danny Glover, Mo’Nique and J.B. Smoove. In select theatres, we have Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, which is getting mixed reviews and once again pushing high framerate technology, along with Paul Verhoeven’s Elle and Bryan Bertino’s The Monster. What will you be watching this weekend?

Around the Web:

Definitely will be seeing Arrival and will be curious to hear Reed’s review. In college, I read the original short story the film is based on by Ted Chiang in a SF literature course.

  • Lori Cerny

Just got home from seeing Arrival and I am shocked at how much I disliked it. I may be the only person who would give this a five-out-of-ten rating… if even that high.

I did not read the story; you recommend it?

Sean, I tried to download one of the most infamous FJ episodes ever, #239, from your FJ Payloadz site.
Curiously enough that exact mp3 is omitted to purchase…

  • Sean

We have limited space on Payloadz so after a certain point I just started having to pick and choose what to include. Did not think Capitalism: A Love Story would be a big seller but if you’re dying to hear it I will see what I can do…

  • Mark

    That would be great.
“Sean and Jay’s Embarrassing Stories” is ESSENTIAL Filmjunk – a nostalgic throwback to less self-conscious, cum-and shart-filled recording times.

  • Sean

Haha oh NOW I understand why you want it. I suppose it is an essential episode after all.

  • Sean

We’re kind of rethinking the back episodes right now so so for now enjoy this episode on the house:

Oh wow, I just saw it, thank you Sean!!
This is the stuff of legends~
