Last December, Netflix released Making a Murderer just before the holidays, allowing it to spread like wildfire through word of mouth. Now this year they’ve got another documentary series lined up for December, although it remains to be seen if it will be quite as addictive. The show is called Captive and it examines eight different cases of real-life kidnappings and hostage situations around the world via interviews with the victims, their families, negotiators and in some cases, the kidnappers themselves. Produced by Simon Chinn (Searching for Sugar Man) and Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), this seems slightly reminiscent of Jason Kohn’s documentary Manda Bala, although it is not limited only to Brazil. Captive arrives on Netflix on Dec. 9th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
