Monday Morning Box Office Report: Madea Manhandles Jack Reacher

Madea reclaimed her place at the top of the box office over the weekend as Boo! A Madea Halloween earned $27.6 million, the highest start for the series since Madea Goes to Jail back in 2009. The last film, A Madea Christmas, opened to just $16 million and seemed to indicate dwindling interest, but now Tyler Perry is apparently back in business. In second place, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back also had a decent debut, bringing in an estimated $23 million. That’s considerably more than the first film made, although it opened during a busy Christmas season back in 2012 and seemed to slowly find an audience over time. In third and fourth place, Ouija: Origin of Evil and The Accountant were both at the $14 million mark separated by just $35,000. The Girl on the Train rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Keeping Up with the Joneses opened in seventh with just $5.6 million, which makes it a pretty big disappointment for 20th Century Fox.
