A couple of big summer disappointments hit DVD and Blu-ray this week along with an acclaimed HBO mini-series and some decent genre back catalogue stuff to boot. Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day Resurgence and James Bobin’s Alice Through the Looking Glass both bombed in theatres (in the U.S. at least) but will now attempt to salvage themselves on home video. Other movies out this week include Woody Allen’s Cafe Society starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, John Le Carre adaptation Our Kind of Traitor starring Ewan McGregor, and the Danish zombie film What We Become. HBO’s crime drama The Night Of is also hitting stores and on Blu-ray we’ve got Criterion’s Trilogia de Guillermo Del Toro, a new collector’s edition of Child’s Play, Night Hawks starring Sylvester Stallone, and Bride of Re-Animator. What will you be picking up this week? Check out the full list of noteworthy releases after the jump.
