Monday Morning Box Office Report: Bourne Back on Track

After a disappointing attempt to reboot the series with Jeremy Renner back in 2012, the Bourne franchise was back in business over the weekend as Jason Bourne opened to a solid $60 million. That’s slightly above most expectations for the film, although it is about $9 million shy of what The Bourne Ultimatum made back in 2007. Meanwhile, Star Trek Beyond plunged approximately 60% to earn $24 million in its second weekend, putting it on track to fall far behind the two previous films when all is said and done. In third place, Bad Moms had a decent debut with $23.4 million, pulling in a huge female audience and The Secret Life of Pets fell to fourth. Lights Out rounded out the top 5. The weekend’s other new wide release, Nerve, opened in a distant eighth place with $9 million.
