Assassin’s Creed Trailer Starring Michael Fassbender

With Ratchet & Clank currently playing in theatres and both Warcraft and The Angry Birds Movie set to hit theatres this summer, it’s already shaping up to be a pretty big year for movies based on video games. To top it off, we’ve got another major video game adaptation set to arrive in time for the holidays: Assassin’s Creed. The first trailer debuted during Jimmy Kimmel last night and it is now available online for your viewing pleasure. The movie is directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth) and it finds him reteaming with cinematographer Adam Arkapaw as well as both Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, who also starred in Macbeth. While the story of a man using virtual reality to explore the “genetic memories” of his ancestors might end up being a little convoluted, at the very least, this looks to be a very pretty film. Assassin’s Creed hits theatres on Dec. 21st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

3 point landing still going strong.

Can’t believe they’re going with the retarded future storyline from the games.

So this is going up against Rogue One? I’m no studio exec, a la Frank, but December 21 seems like a dumb release date. They presumably are wanting to start a new franchise with this, but something tells me it’s just going to get buried by the more high profile holiday movies. We shall see…

Never played the game but this actually doesn’t look so bad.

Yeah looks better than I anticipated and the cast is actually pretty good.
