Oliver Stone’s Snowden Trailer

Although Oliver Stone’s upcoming Edward Snowden biopic was delayed a couple of times last year, it seems to be back on track for a September release this year. And let’s face it, a September release makes a lot more sense than a Christmas or summer one. The movie stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the now world famous whistleblower who leaked classified NSA documents to expose their illegal surveillance program (among other things). While opinions are obviously divided on whether he should be considered a hero or a traitor, it looks like Stone is aiming to present this as more of a suspense thriller than anything. That’s probably a smart approach, although it is unlikely to match the intense immediacy of the documentary Citizenfour. Snowden co-stars Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage, Scott Eastwood and Timothy Olyphant, and it hits theatres on Sept. 16th. This seems Hollywoodized to the point of being a mere cyberthriller, and I’m totally fine with that. Also, Anthony Dod Mantle shot it. Excited, Sean? I can’t wait for it.

I don’t know that I’m excited but I’m definitely more interested than I thought I would be.

What is with JGL’s poor affectation of voices? First in The Walk and now this film; it’s bizarre and distracting.

  • ReelJunkie

He nailed Snowden’s voice but it is extremely distracting! Also, I’m tired of films like this. Fifth State, Black Hat and this… all of them blend in together for me.

This really looks bad imo.. At times it looks like a bad parody of this sort of movie. :/
