Miles Ahead Trailer: Don Cheadle is Miles Davis

After warming up by directing a couple of episodes of House of Lies, Don Cheadle dove headfirst into his first feature film with a biopic about legendary jazz musician Miles Davis. Adding to the degree of difficulty, Cheadle isn’t just behind the camera but also in front of it too. The movie was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics prior to its premiere at the New York Film Festival last year where it received mostly positive, if not entirely glowing, reviews. At the time it seemed like an obvious awards contender, but based on the first trailer and new spring release date that may not be in the cards after all. Miles Ahead co-stars Ewan McGregor, Emayatzy Corinealdi and Michael Stuhlbarg and it hits select theatres on April 1st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I can strongly recommend Davis’ autobiography. It’s fascinating to get a glimpse inside the mind of a man whose talent was only superseeded by the size of his ego. Plus tons of sureal anecdotes that put any modern day bad boy to shame. Cheadle is a great cast, but I would’ve liked to have seen Scorsese in Wolf of Wall Street mode have a go at this. Hope they focus more on his outrageous life style. We all know he was a musical genius.
