Less than one week after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Chris Rock would be hosting the 2016 Oscars, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has responded with an announcement of their own. For the past three years, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have done a fantastic job hosting the Golden Globes, but it had already been hinted that they would not likely be returning. So now the HFPA has turned back to another familiar face who claimed that he would never host the show again: British comedian Ricky Gervais. Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had this to say:
“Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television… His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”
Gervais also made a statement of his own via Twitter:
It's a good job I'm drunk. Otherwise the thought of hosting The Golden Globes again would seem like a real pain in the arse.

The choice is somewhat surprising given the mixed reception that Gervais has received in the past, but with the Academy finally opting for a more edgy host, it was not a good time for the Globes to back down. The last time he hosted, he also seemed to tone things down a little bit. Either way, I’m sure plenty of people will tune in just to see which A-list actors end up on the wrong end of his jokes. Are you happy to see Ricky Gervais return to host the Golden Globes?
