Here’s a little bit of comic book movie news that’s got everyone fired up, although at this point it is most definitely just a rumour. We all can agree that George Miller re-established his action movie credentials in a big way this summer with Mad Max: Fury Road, and although there has been talk about some possible sequels, Warner Bros still seems to be on the fence. In the meantime, however, the studio has quite a few other big movies on the horizon that are absolutely in need of some credibility: in particular, their line-up of DC Universe films. It would seem natural that at some point they would consider George Miller for the director’s chair on at least one of those projects. As it turns out, this week we’re hearing that they have Miller in mind to direct the next Superman solo movie (ie. Man of Steel 2). But is this report actually legit?
The news comes from a somewhat unlikely source: Jon Schnepp, director of the recent documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?. He appeared on the most recent episode of DC Movie News where he made the following statement:
“George Miller, he’s doing Man of Steel 2… Obviously Zack Snyder is doing Justice League 1 and 2, we already got James Wan doing Aquaman – Waterman I think they should change the title– but yeah I think George Miller is a perfect choice to do Man of Steel 2, he’s going to bring so much to it.”
As many people know, George Miller was attached to direct a Justice League movie a few years back called Justice League Mortal (which, coincidentally may be the subject of an upcoming documentary similar to Schnepp’s film). Given this fact and Miller’s relationship with Warner Brothers, the rumour does make a certain amount of sense. It’s also possible that Schnepp has some WB contacts as a result of his own documentary. Still, I can’t help but remain somewhat skeptical for the time being. Would you like to see George Miller take on a Man of Steel sequel?
