Raiders! The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made Trailer

By now most people have heard the story of Eric Zala and Chris Strompolos, two elementary school kids in Mississippi in the early ’80s who decided to do a shot-for-shot remake of their favourite movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark. It began an epic project that lasted seven years and ultimately almost cost them their friendship. But they got it done (with the exception of one scene) and bootleg VHS tapes of their work have been circulating among film fans ever since. Now there is an official documentary that tells the story and also re-unites the original cast and crew to shoot that one final scene 33 years later. Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made will premiere at SXSW next month; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Really interested in hearing the story of these kids and their production, but have absolutely no interest in watching Harry Knowles, Eli Roth, or Ernest Cline (in his fucking DeLorean again) talk about much of anything.

    Blurg.

To be fair, if I had a DeLorean, I’d probably want to do interviews from it, as well.

I saw a screening of the original fan film with the creators around 2007 and it was really amazing. There are moments that are really interesting like when the kids try to pull off a shirtless-romantic scene or seeing how they try to recreate an elborate stunt. As they get older the produciton value increases so it helps you from getting bored but seeing it on a big screen may have also helped.

If this new documentary format let’s broader audiences get to see clips that’s good.
