Movie Poster Round-Up: Dumb and Dumber To, Interstellar, Guardians of the Galaxy

dumbanddumberto

Well it’s been about four months since our last round-up, which means it’s time to take another spin around the web to look at some new and noteworthy movie posters. This time around we’ve got plenty of art for upcoming summer blockbusters, but as per usual it’s the smaller indie films and genre flicks that are putting out some of the most creative designs. Indie highlights include one-sheets for As Above So Below, Willow Creek and The Signal, but when it comes to the blockbusters I also dig the simplicity of the Gone Girl poster and the new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes poster is pretty badass too.

If that’s not enough, we’ve also got groups of new posters for Transformers: Age of Extinction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Guardians of the Galaxy (the latter of which also has some beautiful unofficial artwork) along with the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For poster that was apparently too sexy for the MPAA. What are your favourite and least favourite posters this time around? Check out the full gallery after the jump.

Love Sin City one. ^__^ All four of Transformers posters are terrible. Fans posters are actually billion times better than the original ones.

I just see references to other media.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes = Napoleon Crossing the Alps
The Sacrament = Anatomy of a Murder
    Pioneer = Deep Star Six
Spongebob = the Coppertone sunscreen ad from the 50’s.
The 4th Guardians poster = Star Wars original poster

  • Lori Cerny

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a reference to “Napoleon Crossing the Alps.”
Spongebob refers to the Coppertone sunscreen ad from the 50s.
The 4th Guardians poster is the original Star Wars poster.
Pioneer is too similar to Deep Star Six for my taste.
And I know I’ve seen The Sacrament image before, just don’t have time to research it.

I don’t see creativity, but references to other media.

I don’t know why, but my Disqus account seems to be hiccupping.

The 4th Guardians poster is not an official one… it’s part of a series of fan-made posters where they were deliberately riffing on other posters. But I hear ya.

  • Those Ninja Turtles “Graffiti” posters are garbage. They look like they were thrown together in 20 minutes by me when I was 15.

I actually like the Shredder one a fair but, but yeah the other ones look like test proofs. Love most of the fan-made posters though, including Aliens and Guardians of the Galaxy. While it’s a simple concept, my favourite non-fan submission is As Above So Below.
