The Movie Club Podcast Episode #29: Pickup on South Street and The Big Combo

movieclub29

The Movie Club Podcast is an irregular roundtable podcast where we select two movies to dissect, analyze and discuss with a group of fellow movie bloggers and film fans.

In the middle of January, our good friend Kurt Halfyard has somehow managed to awaken the troops from their winter slumber to record a new episode of The Movie Club Podcast. Fittingly, the two movies being tackled this time around are a couple of cold, harsh film noir classics: Samuel Fuller’s Pickup on South Street (1953) and Joseph H. Lewis’ The Big Combo (1955). If you haven’t yet seen either of these movies, you can watch both of them right here.

The stacked line-up for this episode features Kurt from Row Three, Thomas Wishloff from Big Kahuna Burger Podcast, Bob Turnbull from Eternal Sunshine of the Logical Mind, Jandy Stone from The Frame, Ariel Fisher from Rue Morgue and Matthew Price from Mamo!. Stay tuned for the next episode a couple of months from now, which will be a P.T. Anderson / Robert Altman love fest featuring two seemingly unrelated films: Punch-Drunk Love and Popeye. Head over to The Movie Club Podcast website to download the latest episode and leave your thoughts over there in the comments.

  • Sean

Would definitely like to, but with our premium podcast schedule at the moment it’s just too much.

  • Kurt

The invitation is always open, and you live right up the street Sean. The next one is in early April…

  • Sam

Love both these two movies, would love the FJ presence on the Movie Club Podcast, but enjoy the discussions either way.
