Fantastic Four Reboot Casting Shortlist Includes Kit Harington, Saoirse Ronan and Kate Mara

A couple of months ago, we heard rumours that Fox was looking to expand and combine the continuity of all of their Marvel properties in order to build a cinematic universe of their own. Obviously now that the rights to Daredevil have reverted back to Marvel, the two biggest remaining comic book franchises in Fox’s possession are the X-Men and Fantastic Four. That puts a lot of pressure on their upcoming Fantastic Four reboot to be not only successful, but also big enough to open the door to more sequels and spin-offs as well. Casting is going to be a huge part of that and this week it appears that they are finally getting serious about finding the right actors for the lead roles. Hit the jump to find out the shortlist of names that are currently in contention for the new Fantastic Four.

According to Variety, Fox currently has two trios of actors lined up to test for the roles of Reed Richards and Sue Storm. The actors they have in mind for Reed Richards are:

  • Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Pompeii)
  • Jack O’Connell (Skins, 300: Rise of an Empire)
  • Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now, Project X)

And here is the list for Sue Storm:

  • Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Host)
  • Kate Mara (House of Cards)
  • Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Pan Am)

As for Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Fruitvale Station) seems to be the only actor currently up for the role at this time. Considering the recent rumours that he is also being pursued for an Independence Day sequel and Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s no surprise that they would want to lock him in for the role. No word yet on who they might want to play Ben Grimm in the film.

Josh Trank (Chronicle) is directing Fantastic Four from a script by Jeremy Slater with rewrites by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past). Do you think the reboot will be an improvement on the previous Fantastic Four films? How do you feel about these potential casting choices?

Was is this Reboot supposed to be? “The Fantastic Four: College Years”? Miles Teller as Reed Richards, are you kidding me?

  • Sean

Yes, they’re going younger like they did with X-Men: First Class.

  • MisterUnderhill

Can’t wait to see how the writers awkwardly fumble their way through the retcon to explain why Johnny and Sue are siblings of different ethnicity.

  • Flo Lieb

Well, at least in “First Class” Magneto and Prof. X were in their thirties and scouting young people for Xavier’s School for Gifted YOUNGSTERS, but are we supposed to believe that people like Miles Teller and Saoirse Ronan are scientists with a doctorate? Gimme a break. I don’t understand that trend to make those comic book heros younger and younger. It’s not supposed to be frickin’ Harry Potter…

  • CrumbThumber

Haha, I don’t know anything about the fantastic four, but I like that you quibble with their abilities to get doctorates, but are fully accepting of their super powers.

  • Flo Lieb

Because the doctorate they have to earn and the super powers not.

A (Marvel) toddler – or child, e.g. Matt Murdock – could get super powers if he has an accident but not a doctorate.
