A couple of years ago, it was announced that director Kevin Tancharoen had been hired to direct a new Mortal Kombat movie based on the strength of his short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, and the follow-up web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Now a couple of years later, the plans for a new feature film do not seem as solid as they once were. As far as we know, the movie will be a tie-in for the launch of a new Mortal Kombat video game, but no new game has been announced as of yet and plenty of question marks remain.

In the meantime, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and Machinima have decided to go ahead with a second season of Mortal Kombat: Rebirth instead. This time around they have recruited some new cast members with Cary Tagawa reprising his role as Shang Tsung from the first Mortal Kombat movie and Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) playing Johnny Cage. The 10 episodes of the new season will be released on Machinima all at once on Sept. 26th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
